Participants have the opportunity to try out and use various broad axes, other axes and traditional equipment for log-building. Instruction is also given in the use of modern equipment for sawing and milling logs for building log houses.<\/p>\n<p>This course is led by our trainers Andreas Hipf . Andreas is a talented carpenter with a multi-year experience in the field and is a trained carpenter in Germany. Andreas has also been hiking journeyman during his trip , he worked with carpenters for over ten different countries.<\/p>\n<p>The course books are \u2018From Log to Log House\u2019 by Sven-Gunnar H\u00e5kansson and \u2018Knuttimring\u2019 [Timber Jointing] by Jan-Ove Jansson.<\/p>\n<p>The minimum age for course participants is 16.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Course content<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Building a simple log house<\/li>\n<li>Ground and foundation<\/li>\n<li>Log-building tools and how to sharpen them<\/li>\n<li>Obtaining, selecting, drying and sawing timber<\/li>\n<li>Notchwork<\/li>\n<li>Hewing technique<\/li>\n<li>The \u201cDalaknut\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Dowelling<\/li>\n<li>Door and window openings<\/li>\n<li>Roof construction<\/li>\n<li>Different edges and their grinding techniques<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What to bring to the course<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Folding rule and pencil. Steel-capped safety boots with penetration-resistant soles are recommended but not compulsory. Hard wearing clothing in the form of work overalls\/protective clothing will also be good to have. All other equipment is available to borrow on site.
