On this course you will learn the basics of timber framing and be involved in erecting a timber fram house yourself. During 6 intensive and inspiring days you will gain practical and theoretical knowledge in how to build a smaller timber frame house according to the Square rule method – from first measurements to finished structure.
We work with wood from logs of Swedish pine from the forests of Hälsingland. Timber frame houses are an alternative to traditional timbering for building houses. Using traditional methods and carving tools from Gränsfors Bruk, you will learn how to work with wood in a solid and sustainable way during the course. You will learn the basics of timber frame construction and techniques for joining and rising.
The course is held in Gränsfors where you will build timber frame house of approximately 3×5 meters together with other participants – with the goal that it will be erected during the course.
Regardless of whether you are a beginner or have some experience in wood construction, you will get a unique insight into the traditional craft in an inspiring environment in Gränsfors. The course is led by experienced carpenter Andreas Hipf.
Teaching is in Swedish, English and German depending on the number of course participants. The course takes place outdoors under cover in Gränsfors. Max 10-12 participants, depending on the composition.
Minimum number for implementation: 8 participants. Minimum age: 16 years.
